Nationals Candidate for Calare Sam Farraway today welcomed Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to the iconic Bathurst 1000 event.
Mr Farraway said the Bathurst 1000 continues to attract huge crowds, showcasing the importance of this world-class event not just for motorsport fans but for the local economy.
"Peter Dutton's visit to the Bathurst 1000 highlights the national significance of this event. It’s an economic driver for our region, bringing in thousands of visitors and giving a real boost to local businesses,” Mr Farraway said.
“Events like this remind us why we need to keep investing in the future of Bathurst, which is why I ensured Mr Dutton met with Bathurst Mayor Clr Robert ‘Stumpy’ Taylor to discuss the need for ongoing investment, including the future resurfacing of the track to keep Bathurst at the forefront of motorsport on the international stage.
“The Bathurst 1000 is the holy grail of motorsport in Australia – it’s in our DNA and we need to rev up our investment to keep it at the top of the grid.
"This year has seen strong crowd numbers and it’s clear that Bathurst’s future lies in continued growth and development.
“Just like the drivers pushing for every tenth of a second, we need to push for every dollar to invest in the future of this event. Bathurst deserves nothing less than pole position.
“Upgrading the road surface and other facilities will ensure we can keep hosting events of this calibre.
“The Bathurst 1000 is not only an iconic race but an event that Bathurst relies on, and maintaining its stature means delivering the infrastructure and support it deserves.
“We’re not here to cruise – Bathurst 1000 is full throttle and I’m committed to making sure we keep this event firing on all cylinders for future generations to come.”
