NATURAL DISASTER DECLARED FOR CABONNE

A state of natural disaster has been declared for the Cabonne LGA following severe weather and flooding experienced in June and July.

Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway said the natural disaster declaration would unlock much needed funds to support residents impacted by the flooding event.

“Supporting our community during this trying time is incredibly important and I welcome the announcement today that Cabonne Council has been included in the Commonwealth-State Disaster declaration,” Mr Farraway said.

“With this announcement our community can now access a range of support measures under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

“I am encouraging individuals, businesses and primary producers affected by the floods to speak with Service NSW about the support available to help build back after this extreme weather event.”

Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Assistance available under the DRFA for the Cabonne Local Government Area may include:

Support for eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged;

• Assistance to support affected local councils with the costs of cleaning up and restoring damaged essential public assets;

• Concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and nonprofit organisations; and

• Freight subsidies for primary producers.

Mr Farraway said the natural disaster declaration also unlocks assistance for Cabonne Council to restore essential public assets such as local roads.

Councils have a big job repairing road and infrastructure networks and this season’s unprecedented rainfall has struck a hard blow on top of an already big task.

“This funding is an important part of the recovery for our region and will ensure that Cabonne locals can travel safely from A to B, build back better and secure a brighter future.” For more information and assistance visit: www.service.nsw.gov.au/floods.
