Nationals Candidate for Calare, Sam Farraway, has called on the Federal Labor Government to release the advice it relied on to block the McPhillamys Gold Mine project near Blayney.
Mr Farraway has met with the Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, Nationals Leader David Littleproud and Shadow Minister for the Environment Jonathon Duniam, to voice the community’s concerns regarding Federal Labor’s decision to block the mine, despite the project having the necessary state and federal environmental approvals, as well as the support of the local Aboriginal Land Council.
“The Albanese Government has completely ignored the experts in their own departments, ignored the local Aboriginal Land Council, and ignored the people of Blayney to unilaterally reject this project,” Mr Farraway said.
“The McPhillamys project was set to deliver 800 high-paying jobs into the Blayney community, but Federal Labor’s decision has now sent shockwaves throughout the Central West.
“This decision is further proof that the Federal Labor Government is only interested in governing for the cities, and has no plan for the Central West."
Mr Farraway demanded answers on behalf of the Blayney community over the directive from Tanya Plibersek, saying Labor must come clean on what advice it received, and from where.
“Our community has the right to know why this decision was made and what advice the Minister is relying upon,” Mr Farraway said.
“The public need to ask themselves, if Federal Labor won’t release this advice, what exactly are they trying to hide and why exactly did they block the project when it had planning approval?”
