The Nationals Candidate for Calare Sam Farraway is demanding that Labor immediately abandon its plan to strip Central West families of their rights to protect their land and livelihoods against the forced imposition of wind farms.
As reported by The Australian on 22 September, the NSW Labor Government is considering new laws that would silence families who want to fight to stop wind farm developments in their community and near farming land.
Mr Farraway slammed the proposal as an outrageous attack on the hardworking families who have cared for and worked their land for generations.
“This isn’t just about wind farms – this is about our local families, landowners and farmers losing their basic right to defend their land and their way of life,” Mr Farraway said.
“These are not faceless corporations or political players. These are mums and dads, people who’ve built their livelihoods here and Labor wants to take their voices away and the land they worked hard for just to push through their own agenda.
“Labor’s move to trample over people’s rights for the sake of renewable energy windmills and solar panels is disgraceful.
“Our community deserves a say in what happens on their land. Families are raising real concerns about these developments – concerns that Labor in Sydney is flat-out ignoring.
“This proposal isn’t just reckless – it’s dangerous. Labor is threatening the very backbone of our rural communities. This is about protecting prime agricultural land, family homes and the future of our region.
“The Minns Labor Government is clearly in the pocket of the renewables industry, pushing to strip families of their right to object to wind farms while letting projects in the Central West blow out by $5 billion—this isn’t about clean energy, it’s about sacrificing community rights for corporate profit.
“If they can take away your right to protect your property for a wind farm, what other rights are they going to come for next? This government needs to listen to the people it’s hurting.
“I have launched a petition available on my website where Central West locals can send a strong message to the NSW Labor Government that we deserve to be heard.”
The petition can be found at www.samfarraway.com.au/propertyrights
