FARRAWAY BACKS COMMON SENSE CHANGES TO ALCOHOL TAX

The Nationals Candidate for Calare, Sam Farraway has reaffirmed his support to freezing the alcohol excise to support the pubs and clubs’ industry and ease the financial burden on the hard-working households across the Central West.

Mr Farraway said urgent changes were needed to the excise tax, which in its current form was completely unsustainable for local pubs and clubs.

“Under Labor, the cost of living has skyrocketed,” Mr Farraway said.

“With less disposable income, locals are being driven away from the great Australian pastime of a meal and beer in our pubs and clubs, with many choosing to drink at home.

“Today we have heard from iconic Australian brand Bundaberg Rum, that 63 per cent or nearly two thirds of the price you pay goes straight to the government as tax.

“By freezing these punishing excise increases, we’re offering short term relief to local venues in the Central West struggling as patronage declines as people are priced out of a night out.

Late last year, Mr Farraway and NSW Nationals Senator Ross Cadell met with local publicans in the Central West to discuss the impact of the current excise policy.

“If I’m elected as the Member for Calare, I’ll be pushing for common sense changes to alcohol excise” Mr Farraway said.
